In Which We Talk About Chocolate Bacon, Fairs, Photography, And The Damnable Summer
So my father, deciding in his infinite wisdom, that with his time off and the looming heat of the Bakersfield sun that he should go on a seaside vacation. Thankfully for me, he decided to invite me along, so here I am now, typing to you, dear reader, from the 4 point Sheraton in Ventura, overlooking the harbor and listening to the water. It has been a lovely 65 degrees here, as opposed to the 103 in back home, or the "1,000 degrees in Fucking Lebec!" as Adam put it.
I really hate the heat. No, really, I hate it being hot. This is something that you, dear reader, will get tired of hearing me kvetch about but too bad. If I have to put up with it until fall, so do you (though, I suppose, you could simply cease reading, I however, will continue typing.) I hate the heat. I hate that it causes me to sweat. I hate sweat as a general rule, and I start to sweat at around 86 degrees. How, then, you may wonder, have I survived the summers of the county of Kern my entire life? A simple answer. I stayed inside with that wondrous God From The Machine, Air Conditioning. Yes, that was capitalized, its earned it. Still, even with that it hot, its even hot at 2 in the morning when there is no sane reason for it to be. But for now, dear reader, I have been granted a reprieve, so I suppose that enough about the heat, for now, and on to the topics that really got you here.
The Ventura county fair! What? No? That is not why you are reading? But its ever so important! Well too bad, press on, dear reader, press on. The Fair turned out to be more fun than I expected. Generally I like fairs, but they tend to be, well, intrinsically local things. This however was great fun. Aided in no small part by the weather and being near the ocean, it was mostly dust free and full of interesting things going on. There was a village blacksmith, who, sadly, I did not get a picture of, however I highly suspect that an actual blacksmith would not wear a thin, open, and small vest whilst working, due to heated metal. While his credentials thusly suspect at best, I still would likely run to him for equipment should portals from hell open into the Ventura county fair, and fallen ones, zombies, and possessed rouges come pouring out. There were rides of course, and child-riding-atop-sheep races, as well as a perpetually annoyed looking painted pony. Also at fairs, of course, are people. Ah yes, how ever could I forget about the people. Those ever so lovable sociopaths wielding baby strollers as though they were human separators. Theres a better word for that, it resembles the pointy thing on some vehicles that they use to....ah...move...cattle. Aside from pushy young mothers, theres also fat annoying women who speak 8 decibels too loud inside small, confined areas, Carnies, Friendly chaps with face and neck tattoos, and inept security! After milling about in the human sea for some time, my Father and I moved on to what you astute readers will have known all along; the photography exhibit.
I have no photos of the photo exhibit, and, sadly, I didn't write down any of the peoples names whose work I liked or despised. This was due to me only having my phone, and not really wanting to use the somewhat low battery any further for reasons that will become apparent later in this post. However, I note the rather abundant amount of praise and ribbons awarded to people who, while knowing evidently how to take a good picture, have just learned about HDR photography, and ooooovvvveeerrrr use it. Just because something is colourful and it pops out, does not make it more worthy of praise than the traditional, and all together better composed, shot, and worked photos. The black and white on the other hand was fantastic, so many good pictures by all sorts of people. I need to step up my game. After seeing the photos, and the paintings over in its section, we were feeling hungry, so off I went to get dinner.
Fair food is always special, and carried with it a wonderful, flavour filled dance with health code violations that I love to engage in. Tonight, this was first indulged with what appeared to be a 10 inch, half pound hot link in a bun, then later, a delicious turkey leg that I snagged a picture of.
But I know what you, dear reader, are waiting for. Chocolate covered bacon. I had only previously heard about only on the internet, but here it was, in front of my eyes. Thick pieces of maple bacon dipped lovingly in dark chocolate. This I had to try for myself, and my father expressed interest as well. Thankfully I also had my phone with its small amount of power to take these pictures for you.
The chocolate is a tad overwhelming at first, but then, the salty, meaty, all together bacony taste comes through. Over all the flavour is very....unique. I still don't know if I liked or disliked it, hours later. The texture on the other hand is slightly disturbing when you get a piece of fatty bacon. That, needless to say, is a complicated mix of feelings in ones mouth. I recommend you try some, oh friend reader, for yourself.

Testing post for AiT
Testing for a first post.
Right, so I've decided to start this blog because twitter is limiting and I dislike the idea of using Live Journal for for not particularly frequent posts about things like:
Thoughts on current events
Strange and/or Wonderful Foods
Music
Art
Whatever is on my mind, which may be not much in grand total.
